A full-time permanent position exists for a Scientist in our Beverages product development team. The role is primarily based in Lake Macquarie at our R&D facility in Cooranbong, with project implementation and process support requiring time at the manufacturing facility located in Berkeley Vale.
In this role you will be responsible for applying professional approaches and techniques in product development across the large Beverages portfolio. You will also be responsible for the evaluation of new raw materials and the development and maintenance of both raw material and formulation specifications. This role includes collaborating with our engineering department & manufacturing sites in ongoing process improvement. You will be expected to deliver to agreed project briefs, operate according to approved processes, food safety requirements and safe work practises and be a high contributing member of your team.
Your role will be required to:
Use your understanding of food technology, food safety and processing to manage and deliver solutions to allocated new product development projects,
Actively contribute to multidisciplinary project teams.
Develop, maintain and review technical specifications.
Identify, evaluate and recommend opportunities for innovation, cost and quality improvements.
Provide technical assistance and operational support as required.
Design conduct and report on pilot plant experiments and factory trials.
Deliver projects to brief in agreed times.
Contribute to the development of our quality systems and focus on continuous improvement in service and interaction with other departments/clients.
You will need to have the necessary interpersonal and leadership skills to gain the confidence and support of the team, internal customers, and stakeholders to achieve both the required team project goals and your personal goals. You will need to be an active supporter of Sanitarium culture and values.
Excellent written and oral communications skills are essential as well as a high degree of personal organization and professionalism. Occasional out of hours work will be required, mostly to support production trials.
Relevant Tertiary qualifications in Food Technology or related science areas with demonstrated aptitude in food processing.
Experience in Beverages, UHT processing is desirable, however those with less experience but the appropriate capabilities are also invited to apply.
A current driver's licence is a requirement of the role. The role will be based on the Lake Macquarie Area/Central Coast, NSW, and the ability to work in Australia is required.
Knowledge of WHS and EEO in the workplace.
Understanding of food regulations, legislation and food safety.
Understanding of HACCP as applies to food production.
Understanding of ISO and other Quality System requirements
Computer skills e.g., Microsoft Office; use of word processing, excel and databases.
Strong analytical skills with mathematical and statistical capability.
